my mac died

May 20, 2009

So unfortunatly, being young, impressionable, and not so mac saavy, when I first got my mac two years ago I didn’t really know what I was doing or much about the warranty and renewing apple care for the rest of my computers life. Now that my love and passion for macs have flourished, conviently when it’s slowly starting to die in all ways, I realize that apparently macs apple cares are like library books (no one ever reminds you when they are about to be overdue), only when they are overdue, you can never renew them again. Long story short, there is something wrong with my battery and the charger is broken. I need to buy a new one for 80 dollars which I definitely do not have right now, and what’s worse is I also have to go back to the Mac store conviently 45 mins away, because the “genius” at the store ran tests and still did not realize that there is something wrong with my battery, which there is. What I am trying to say is, I have a lot to update, and some awesome pictures, but it’s hard for me to get access to a computer to upload them through my camera and update my blog, so keep patient! Until then enjoy!

Listening to: Snow Patrol on repeat.

So today I started packing. I hate packing. In fact, I also hate unpacking, haha. Although I am glad to be going home soon, I am also going to miss this home I have made for myself at school. Although I gain my friends from home which is incredible, it is so weird to lose the ones from school as they go to their respective homes. However I am looking forward to two things, seeing my sister soon and summer concerts!! Although they are not coming back this summer, here is a picture of (first my beautiful sister then) Bloc Party, one of my favorite bands.

Weekends in the City

May 13, 2009

Juli
School has ended today! I had my final presentation for Marketing, here is an ad I made for it to go along with our packaging for Nectar. Check it out!advertisment I am still at school though working, but this past weekend was incredible. My best friends from home came up to Philadelphia and we explored and wreaked havoc as our usual. We saw two incredible musicians on Sunday PJ Bond and Kite Party. Please check them out!

PJ was absolutely an incredible soul. Everyone there was in awe of him, and when he played there were no other sounds. His presence was so great. He is actually living out of his car and couch surfing and taking what he learns to write a book. I believe he said would be called A year of 1000 roommates. I can’t wait to read it.

I love this game.

I’m about to make my mom a sweet card for Mother’s day with my new envelope and paper folding skills. But I wanted to upload two designs I did today. One for fun, one for a class.

I am taking Marketing Communications for a business class, it is really awesome because it has a lot to do with advertising. In the beginning of class we were assigned into groups and we were giving different categories in which to invent a new product and write a huge paper on all aspects of the company (as basically a review of everything we learned this semester) my group was assigned “Alcoholic Beverages”. My group came up with a mix drink of flavored Rum and a chaser that you can drink straight. We finished the paper and are working on our presentation. We had to make an Ad for it which of course was assigned to me. But wanting an A I decided to go above and beyond, and make packaging too…This is where my design comes in.

I wanted to make it all typographical. I also wanted each bottle to be different and connect in some way. We all wanted clever names for each flavor, this is what I came up with (you can click to see a bigger/clearer version under the “designs” page):
nectar pack

The next one I am going to design the type branches with fruit is going to be on the left side so if you put the bottles together they connect. I also am going to design the bottle tops, and an advertisement using only type that is a sticker so it can be given out to our target market. Everyone loves stickers, and the more people put stickers around, the more advertising the company gets!

Also today, I did this awesome thing I found on facebook. Here are the rules:
1 – Go to “wikipedia.” Hit “random”
or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 – Go to “Random quotations”
or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

3 – Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”
or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 – Use photoshop or similar to put it all together.

Here is my design:
Prehistoric Asia

The band name was “Prehistoric Asia” and the album title “as close together as possible”. I am not sure how I feel about the type treatment of the album name so I may fix it later, but I think it is sweet other than that!

Hope you enjoy the weekend!
